Full eDiscovery for sole practitioners and small to mid-size firms

Relativity aiR, Everlaw, GoldFynch and Logikcull are cloud platforms you use in a web browser. Simpli runs on machines you control: a desktop app on a Mac or Windows computer, or client-server for a team, in-house or in your own private cloud. Here is how they differ, and when each makes sense.

Competitor details checked on 30 September 2026.

Built for the firms that run their own discovery

Sole practitioners and small to mid-size firms carry the same discovery obligations as the largest firms, with smaller teams and smaller budgets. Simpli gives them the whole workflow, from import to production, on one desktop or shared across a team, with their documents kept on systems they control.

The full workflow

Import raw data and load files; review, tag and redact; export and produce. Transcription and OCR run on your own machines, and the Desktop and Team plans add AI-assisted review, semantic search and summarisation.

Desktop or client-server

Start with the desktop app on one Mac or Windows computer: no server to set up and nothing to upload. When a team needs to work on matters together, the client-server edition runs in-house or in your own private cloud.

Pricing you can plan around

The desktop editions are one flat annual licence per install, not priced by the gigabyte or by the matter: no hosting fees, and nothing billed per minute or per click. Client-server for a team has tailored pricing.

Simpli and each platform

What each product is, as its vendor describes it, and how Simpli differs. Each card lists the pages its details come from.

Simpli and Relativity aiR

Relativity aiR, called RelativityOne until September 2026, is Relativity's cloud eDiscovery platform. It runs in a web browser, hosted on Microsoft Azure, and its generative AI for review, privilege and case strategy is powered by Azure OpenAI. Relativity serves law firms, from large firms to litigation boutiques, as well as corporations, legal service providers and government agencies. It prices by quote, and supports Relativity Server, a self-hosted edition, for new matters until 31 December 2027.

Simpli takes a matter from import to production on machines you control instead, on the desktop or client-server: nothing is sent to us, the AI runs offline, and the desktop editions cost one flat annual licence rather than a quote.

Simpli and Everlaw

Everlaw is a cloud eDiscovery platform used in a web browser and hosted on Amazon Web Services. Everlaw AI adds Deep Dive questions across a whole matter, coding suggestions and drafting help, using third-party language models that Everlaw says retain no customer data. Everlaw serves law firms, including boutique firms, as well as corporations and government agencies. It does not publish prices; its service terms bill a rate per gigabyte of active data.

With Simpli, the documents and the AI stay on your own machines unless you choose to connect a cloud AI service, and on the desktop the licence price does not change with the volume of data.

Simpli and GoldFynch

GoldFynch is a cloud eDiscovery service for small law firms, used in a web browser. Documents are stored on Google Cloud in the US, or in Canada through GoldFynch Canada, and it offers on-premise plans in some cases. It publishes its prices: each case has a monthly plan set by its data volume, with users, processing and productions unlimited. It finds the dates, people, organisations and places a document mentions, and offers machine-learning-assisted searches.

Simpli’s desktop editions are priced per install rather than per case, so the licence costs the same however much data your matters hold and however long you keep them, and the documents stay on your own machines unless you choose to connect a cloud AI service.

Simpli and Logikcull

Logikcull, owned by Reveal since 2023, is a cloud eDiscovery platform used in a web browser and hosted on Amazon Web Services. Its generative-AI fact-finding engine, ASK, answers natural-language questions about a matter's documents, and it tags privileged and personal information automatically. Logikcull serves corporations, government, law firms and schools, down to solo attorneys. Its pay-as-you-go plans are billed each month per gigabyte of data, and it offers annual plans; it does not publish figures.

Simpli keeps the documents, and the AI, on your own machines unless you choose to connect a cloud AI service; on the desktop, one annual licence covers however many gigabytes a matter holds.

When a cloud platform may suit you better

Simpli is not the right tool for every matter. A cloud platform may serve you better if:

  • your matters are small and short, where a monthly plan priced by data volume can cost less than an annual licence;
  • you would rather not run the software yourself, on your own hardware or in your own cloud (Simpli’s AI features need a GPU);
  • you want the vendor, or one of its partners, to host the data and manage the project for you.

Questions small and mid-size firms ask

Is Simpli an alternative to Relativity or Everlaw for a small or mid-size firm?

For a firm that runs its own review, yes: Simpli covers the workflow from import to production, including transcription, OCR and AI-assisted review, on one desktop or client-server for a team. If you want a vendor to host the data and manage the matter for you, a cloud platform is the better fit.

Is Simpli cheaper than a cloud platform?

It depends on your matters. A Simpli desktop licence costs the same however much data you process, while a plan priced by data volume costs more as a matter grows; for a small, short matter, a volume-priced plan can cost less. Of the four platforms here, only GoldFynch publishes its prices, so ask the others for a quote against a matter of your own.

Do I need an IT team or a server?

Not for the desktop app. It installs on a Mac with Apple silicon running macOS 12 or later, or a PC running 64-bit Windows 10 or later, and the AI features also need a GPU. A team that wants to share matters can run the client-server edition, in-house or in its own private cloud.

Do my documents ever leave my own systems?

No. Simpli needs an internet connection to activate your licence and to download its components and AI models; after that, processing, review and the AI features run on your own machines. The privacy policy sets out exactly what the software sends us: read the privacy policy.
